Calculator for land area required and units electricity that could be generated by various types of power plants for given Megawatt capacity

The calculator assumes that:
The photovoltaic solar plant is of polycrystalline panels. The panels do not track the sun. The plant is on the ground and not roof top, where the area required is less.
Typical capacity factor= Ratio of actual electricity generation to the generation if the plant would operate at 24x7x365 at its full installed capacity=21% Ref
TYpical area =4 Acre/MW Ref
Typical solar chimney (updraft tower) power plant has
Capacity factor=25% Ref
Area= 49 acre/MW Ref
Typical solar tower power plant eg. PS10 has
Area=13.5 Acre/MW Ref
Capacity factor=24% Ref
Typical solar parabolic trough without natural gas usage eg. solana generating station has
Area=6.8Acre/MW  Ref

Calculator for making fuels equivalent to gasoline

Only gasoline quantity and prices can be changed.

This calculator is useful for comparison of battery operated vehicle and conventional vehicle based on volume occupied, weight, running cost, pollution etc. This comparison could even done amongst conventional vehicles also.

Calculator for cost per unit of electricity generated from solar plant

If the cost per unit of solar electricity is equal to or higher than cost per unit of power station electricity it is not justified to install a solar plant. But the cost of power station electricity varies according to slabs of units used, so if large number of monthly units consumed  lie in 8 Rs/unit and 12 Rs/unit slab then it may become justifiable always. Also the during electricity production CO2, NOx,SO2 emission becomes ZERO. And other charges fixed cost, tax, power factor etc. reduces to zero.
Solar PV system cost if grid connected is 70000 INR approx.

Photovoltaic system design

This calculator is just a basic design and also forces you to take the battery mentioned and panel mentioned. The panels, battery, inverter, could be chosen to still reduce the cost

Water heater selection guide calculator-Realize which type of water heater has minimum energy bill anually and minimum CO2 emission

Note: You can only add values to right column of inputs.
One person uses 15 liter water for bathing. 15 liter bucket should get filled within 10 minutes. Number of people may be 3, so total water requirement, daily, will be 15*3=45 lit with total 30 minutes waiting time. Also, if hot water is to be used frequently, buying storage tank type heaters will be advisable, because starting of any electrical equipment takes 3 times of its rated power for miliseconds, mostly due to capcitor charging and this may increase power consumption with frequent on off. Another thing to be noted is, the electricity bill also acounts the max kW (peak) used in month as a seperate charge, so electric heater should have low power rating.

NO is emitted in power plant with temperature of 1200 dgree celcius. Since there is no sulphur in gaseous fuels so SO2 is zero. It is assumed that no NO is produced in PNG and LPG heating.

Energy conservation tool- realize how much money you save and reduce CO2 emission by buying high efficiency equipments

Note: You can only add values from cell no. 3 to cell no. 8 in right column. Output of equipments to be compared should be same. eg: lux from lighting equipment, volume of washing machine, CFM and diameter of fan, hardware configuration of computer, volume of mixer/floor mill, area of flat base of iron.

Ocean absorbs 28% of CO2 emitted by fossil fuels, 26% is absorbed by forests and 46% is released in atmophere. One tree in its lifetime of 40 Yrs aborbs 1 tonne CO2.

Fridge comparion based on energy bills-Realize how much money you save and reduce CO2 emission by buying higher stars fridge. Consider old fridge1 has lesser stars and new fridge2 has more stars with anual units of electricity consumption specified on BEE label

Note: You can only add values from cell no. 3 to cell no. 8 in right column. Storage volume of Fridges to be compared must be same.

1) If you want to replace existing fridge1 by higher stars fridge, this calculator will tell you simple payback period. The fridge has lifespan of aroud 20 Yr, so payback period should be less than 20 Yr, otherwise the amount invested in buying new fridge2 will not be paid back to you completely in the form of yearly savings on electricity bill.

2) If you are buying new fridge, this calculator will tell you how much you can save yearly by buying higher star fridge2 and eventhough higher stars fridge2 may be a bit costly initially will generate revenue in the form of savings after total savings cross the difference in price of two fridges.

Domestic AC comparison on energy bills-Realize how much money you save and reduce CO2 emission by buying higher EER AC. Consider old AC as low EER AC and new AC as higher EER AC.

Note: You can only add values from cell no. 3 to cell no. 7 in right column. you can assume cost of electricity as Rs 3/kW-hr.
One bigger tree can absorb 1 tonne of CO2 in its 40yr lifetime.
28% of fossil fuel emitted CO2 is absorbed by oceans, 26% by forests, 46% is released in atmosphere.
CO2 ppm has reached 400 and  10,000 ppm (1%) or higher for several hours eliminate pests such as whiteflies and spider mites in a greenhouse.

1) If you want to replace existing AC by higher EER AC, this calculator will tell you simple payback period. The AC has lifespan of aroud 20 Yr, so payback period should be less than 20 Yr, otherwise the amount invested in buying new AC will not be paid back to you completely in the form of yearly savings on electricity bill.

2) If you are buying new AC, this calculator will tell you how much you can save yearly by buying higher EER AC and eventhough higher EER AC may be a bit costly initially will generate revenue in the form of savings after total savings cross the difference in price of two ACs. You can calculate this year ,equal to. ratio of  difference in the cost to the yearly savings.
